Colloidal Mill is a machine used to reduce the size of the solid particles in suspension in a liquid, or to reduce the size of the droplets in an emulsion. Colloidal Mill works on the rotor-stator principle: a rotor rotates at high speed (2000 - 18000 RPM [1]). High levels of shear stress [clarification] are applied to fluids causing structural disturbance and damage. Colloidal Mill is often used to improve suspension and emulsion stability, but can also be used to reduce the size of solid particles in suspension. [1] The higher shear speed results in smaller droplets, down to about 1 μm [2] which is more resistant to emulsion separation.
