CSS-1 (CATIONC SLOW SETTING-1)

Asphalt Emulsion type CSS-1

Is a type of Asphalt Emulsion which is used for Cold Mix Making, Dense Graded Emulsion Mix (DGEM). Namely a mixture of Emulsion Asphalt with graded aggregate continuously mixed as a Cold Mix and used as a foundation layer, surface layer or patching.

Dense Graded Emulsion Mix (DGEM)

DGEM properties:

  1. Waterproof
  2. Has a structural value equal to the Hotmix construction
  3. Has a similar performance to Hotmix

Benefits:

  1. Not dependent on temperature as it is Cold Mix
  2. The mixture can be saved so that the project implementation schedule is more effective
  3. Suitable for patching jobs
  4. Tolerates using a damp / wet agregate
  5. Just use simple blending and spreading tools.
  6. There is no need for heating so that it doesn't save fuel.
  7. Non-polluting so as to preserve the environment
  8. Implementation is simple and labor-intensive and economical.

 

Materials and Tools:

  1. Asphalt Emulation required is the type with a slow setting speed with 58% pure asphalt content
  2. The aggregate used must meet the following requirements:
    • Broken Stone with two or three broken areas of at least 75%
    • Not of the Silka / Lime type because this type of rock has a positive charge
    • Clean from organic contents
    • The water content in the agregate is 3%, if it is too dry it must be wetted first with water (water that must be clean)
    • Must meet the gradations as stated in the table
  3. Mixing Equipment:
    • Asphalt Mixing Plant (AMP) with eliminating burning
    • Batching Plant type Pugmill
    • Mollen Concrete
  4. Vibrator:
    • Asphalt Finisher
    • Motor Grader
  5. Compactor:
    • For the DGEM Overlay the compactor needed is Tire Roller, the Tandem Roller is only used for leveling
    • For DGEM Patching, the compactor needed is a Baby Roller / Hand Stamper

Asphalt Emulsion type EA-S 63 / CSS-1h

EA-S 63 is a type of Asphalt Emulsion whose application is for the construction of Sand Emulsion Mix.

EA-S 63 in & nbsp; ASTM standard is referred to as CSS-1h (Cationic Slow Setting 1h) & nbsp;

Sand Emulsion Mix (S.E.M) itself is a mixture of local natural sand with Asphalt Emulsion type CSS-1h with a percentage of & nbsp; contains 7 & ndash; 12% of the total weight of natural sand (depending on the condition and type of local sand) as a Cold Mix and spread as a Foundation with structural value

Sand Emulsion Mix (S.E.M)

S.E.M properties

  1. Can be spread directly on the subgrade.
  2. Is a Cold Mix.
  3. Has a Structural Value equivalent to ATB.
  4. Surface layer is not worn, so it does not need to be worn.

Benefits

  1. Does not depend on mixture temperature
  2. Cold Mix can be saved, so that the work schedule can be more flexible.
  3. Can be used especially in areas where aggregate is difficult to obtain but there is a lot of sand available.
  4. Environmentally friendly, does not require burning so it is pollution free.
  5. Replaces the function of the base course / soil cement treated and ATB.

 

Materials and Tools

  1. The required emulsion asphalt material is of type EA-S63 / CSS-1h.
  2. The sand used must comply with the specifications of the Director General of Highways, a type of non-organic sand with a Sand Equivalent (SE) value of at least 60%.
  3. Additional water is used to achieve the coating moisture content and compaction water content as determined by laboratory tests
  4. Several types of Sand Emulsion Mix mixers are:
  • Mixing Plant type Paddle Mixer
  • The Asphalt Mixing Plant can be used by eliminating burning
  • Molen concrete can be used but the results are not good.

  • Motor Grader
  • Manual
